Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has weighed in on President William Ruto‘s recent cabinet appointments, raising concerns about Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s political future.
In a statement posted on his X account on July 25, Abdullahi declared Gachagua as the biggest casualty of the restructured government.
He characterized Gachagua as a “dead man walking,” indicating that the Deputy President is in a difficult position, since he lacks any allies within the newly formed cabinet.
The Lawyer also suggested that because of this apparent isolation, Gachagua would not survive the upcoming 2027 General elections.
“DP Rigathi Gachagua is the biggest casualty in the reconstituted cabinet/government, Gachagua is a dead man walking!” said Ahmednasir.”
“He is a fatally wounded man and I think he will die of his wounds before 2027,” he added.

No Allies in Ruto’s New Cabinet
Ahmednasir pointed out that despite 37% of the cabinet members being from Mt. Kenya, none appear to be loyal to Gachagua nor do they owe him their loyalty.
“Even though 37% of the cabinet are from Mt Kenya, none remotely owes any allegiance to him. In fact, he doesn’t have a single ally in the cabinet.”

“To say the man from Mathira is on his political death throes is not an exaggeration of his dire political fortunes,” remarked the lawyer.
Moreover, he pointed out that Ruto’s inclusion of the ODM party in his newly formed government had created a stronger political rival further complicating Gachagua’s situation.
Threat to Gachagua’s Political Standing
He also noted that the rising influence of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi posed a significant challenge to Gachagua, therefore making his political future increasingly uncertain.
“Further, President Ruto by bringing ODM into his government has created a stronger rival in government. This coupled with the elevated stature of Musalia Mudavadi simply makes Gachagua’s position plainly untenable,” noted the senior counsel.
Ahmednasir hinted that it may soon be necessary to draft a “political obituary” for Gachagua, underscoring the numerous challenges he faces as the 2027 elections approach.
“I want to maintain some “constructive ambiguity” but to have a draft copy of the political obituary of Gachagua ready for publication at short notice isn’t that outlandish,” he noted.
