List of Clinics Offering DNA Testing Services in Kenya

DNA testing is a scientific method of analyzing genetic material to gather information about ancestry, health, and unique traits.

Some of the DNA testing clinics in Kenya include Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Easy DNA Center, Nairobi Hospital, AlphaBiolabs Kenya, and Bioinformatics Institute of Kenya.

A mouth swab, hair, or blood are the usual materials used during testing. With modern tech advancements, it will take you less than 3 days to receive your accurate results. 

Clinics Offering DNA Testing Services in Kenya

Here is a list of health facilities and the cost per sample.

1. KEMRI

The government-owned institute offers testing in the areas of forensics, immigration, and parental DNA testing.

In January 2025, KEMRI announced an increase in its prices from Ksh20,000 per test to Ksh27,000.

The results take two to three days.

2. Nairobi Hospital

The Nairobi Hospital is one of the private hospitals in Kenya offering DNA testing services. As part of its regulations governing DNA testing, Nairobi Hospital insists that both parents of the child must be present during the test.

For legal purposes, a court order is a requirement and in addition, a witness or a lawyer should be present.

3. AlphaBiolabs Kenya

AlphaBiolabs is a leading institution in genetics testing, drug and alcohol, and Covid-19 analytical testing services. Its services range from paternity tests to legal DNA tests, and immigration DNA testing- among others.  

4. Bioinformatics Institute of Kenya

The facility takes two to three days for accurate results to be released.

It charges approximately Ksh20,000 for parental tests and Ksh150,000 for prenatal testing.

5. Easy DNA

With over 12 years of experience in DNA testing, paternity, relationship and prenatal testing, Easy DNA takes 3-5 working days to process DNA results at Ksh24,000 for every test.

DNA Testing in Kenya

A report by the Kenya Institute of Bioinformatics reviewed 6,169 samples obtained for relationship testing in Kenya.

It revealed that 94% of the tests were paternity, with 62% of the testing samples turning positive while 32% of the tests turned negative.

Out of 30 men who undertake the testing, 10 of them find themselves raising children who are not biologically related to them- according to the report.

Additionally, a 2024 report, Luhya and Mijikenda raise more kids that are not theirs than in other tribes.
