The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has frozen nine properties and 11 vehicles belonging to a Nairobi County Procurement Officer over alleged graft.
According to EACC, Michael Auka Ajwang’s wealth was flagged as it was not commensurate with his known source of income.
The High Court on Thursday gave the anti-graft body orders to freeze the assets
Ajwang earns a net monthly salary of Ksh.21,000
Ajwang allegedly received money totaling Ksh.40,847,000 between January 2014 to June 2022.
EACC wants to establish how the county official obtained the money
EACC suspects the monies are proceeds of bribes from companies awarded tenders by Nairobi City County.
“Pending conclusion of investigations, EACC has obtained preservation orders prohibiting the transfer or disposal of or other dealing of the assets suspected to be proceeds of corruption pursuant to section 56(1) of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act,” read the statement.
