Super Metro, a Kenyan Matatu Sacco, has responded following the tragic death of a passenger involved in a dispute with a tout.
Gilbert Thuo, the victim, fell out of the moving bus along Thika Road after he could not pay his fare and died on the spot.

Passengers on the bus reported that the victim disagreed with the tout over a Ksh 30 fare. The bus fare was Ksh 80, but he had only Ksh 50; hence, conflict arose.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident involving one of the buses operating under our company’s name. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time,” Super Metro company responded

Additionally, the Matatu Sacco acknowledged the public uproar and condoled with the victim’s family.
Super Metro Responds Over Allegations
“No one should lose their life in such a senseless manner. At Super Metro, we hold the sanctity of human life as a core value guiding our actions and decisions,” the statement read.

According to the statement, the transport Sacco stated that the matter is under investigation and assured the public that they take their safety seriously.
“We do not condone reckless behavior, and as a precautionary measure, the crew involved in this incident has been suspended pending further investigation,” the transport Sacco said.
Further, Super Metro reassured their clients that they willingly cooperate with authorities to ensure justice is served.

Strict Safety Protocols
Further, the Matatu Sacco stated that it will issue strict safety protocols that must be adhered to by their drivers.
“Moving forward, we are reinforcing strict safety protocols and training to prevent such tragedies,” read the statement.
In addition, they thanked the public for their patience and trust as they worked to uphold the highest standards in passenger safety.

Public Outcry
The incident caused a public outcry and condemned the driver and the tout for their reckless behaviour.
With some issuing threats to boycott the Sacco until the culprits are not brought to justice.
Kenyans have expressed discontent over the recent cases of Matatu crews being inhumane, reckless driving and mistreating passengers.
