Candace Owens has quickly responded to Erika Kirk on X after major accusations. Owens described the pre-recorded appearance by Erika on the Charlie Kirk Show as uncomfortable and “objectively terrible,” saying the speech appeared to be a prompter read written by someone else.
She added that Erika Kirk chose to respond to a statement Owens says she never made.
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was shot and killed on September 10, 2025, while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
A gunman fired a single shot from a nearby building, striking Kirk in the neck. Tyler James Robinson faces charges in the killing, which authorities described as a politically motivated attack.
Erika Kirk, Kirk’s widow, took over as CEO of Turning Point USA after his death. In her recent appearance, she listed ongoing attacks against her, including claims that comedians had used whiteface, questions about her fitness to lead the organization, and the assertion that Candace Owens had accused her of murdering her husband.
Owens’ Response
Owens posted on X that the delivery was painful to watch and predicted that supporters would pay others to call the speech strong. She stated that of all the criticisms she has made about Erika Kirk, the response addressed something she never said. “They always lie,” Owens wrote.
Owens has produced multiple podcast episodes and a series titled “Bride of Charlie” that examines details around Charlie Kirk’s death and Erika Kirk’s actions afterward.

She has pointed to alleged inconsistencies in statements, questioned security decisions, and released what she described as leaked audio from a Turning Point USA call days after the killing. In that audio, Erika Kirk discussed organizational matters in a manner Owens called unusually upbeat.
Owens has not stated that Erika Kirk personally carried out the murder. Instead, she has raised questions about possible internal issues at Turning Point USA, inconsistencies in public accounts, and broader suspicions about the assassination. She has at times called for Erika Kirk to face police questioning over alleged discrepancies.
The two women met privately in December 2025 after months of public tension. Both described the meeting as productive at the time, but public criticism resumed in the months that followed.
The Ongoing Dispute
The exchange is part of a larger clash within conservative circles since Charlie Kirk’s death. Owens, who once worked with Turning Point USA, has used her platform to scrutinize the organization and its current leadership. Erika Kirk has described the criticism as part of a pattern of lies and smears that contribute to a toxic environment.
Observers on both sides have noted the personal nature of the dispute. Some posts on X accused Owens of spreading unfounded claims, while others said Erika Kirk mischaracterized Owens’ position by framing it as a direct murder accusation.

The pre-recorded format of Erika Kirk’s appearance drew additional comments online, with some viewers calling it scripted and low-energy.
Why This Matters
This public disagreement between two figures in the conservative movement shows the lasting effects of Charlie Kirk’s assassination on Turning Point USA and its allies. Seven months after the killing, questions about the event and its aftermath continue to divide people who once worked together.
The dispute also reflects wider tensions over how public organizations handle leadership transitions after violence and how far critics should go in examining official accounts. With President Donald Trump in office, these divisions occur against a backdrop of heightened attention to political violence following attempts on his own life.
The exchange raises basic questions about transparency, consistency in public statements, and accountability for leaders of major institutions. Whether the criticism amounts to necessary scrutiny or harmful speculation remains a point of clear disagreement.
