President Donald Trump fired back sharply on Truth Social after a federal judge ordered a partial halt to his ambitious White House ballroom project.
The ruling came from U.S. District Judge Richard Leon in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, April 16, who sided with the National Trust for Historic Preservation in their ongoing lawsuit over the massive construction on the East Wing site.
Trump pointed out that the White House has never had a proper ballroom, something presidents have wanted for more than 150 years.
He called the project a gift to the country, built entirely with private funds and costing taxpayers nothing.
In his post, he described the judge as a Trump-hating figure from a D.C. district court who seems determined to undermine national security by delaying or killing the plan.
Trump reveals why the ballroom matters so much.
He said it would give future presidents and world leaders a safe place to hold big meetings, events, inaugurations, and global summits.
The President said that the design has bomb shelters, a state-of-the-art hospital and medical facilities, protective walls, top-secret military setups, steel in columns, roofs, and beams that can withstand missiles, ceilings that can withstand drones, military-grade venting systems, and glass that can withstand bullets, ballistic missiles, and blasts.
Trump warned that without it, no president bunkered in the White House would ever feel secure at major events.
He stressed how vital that space is for the country’s leader to get the job done. Plus, he noted construction is running ahead of schedule and right on budget.
Most of the materials are either built or on the way to the site, with hundreds of millions of dollars already spent.

Trump questioned why no complaint had been filed months earlier, when the plans were public, and everyone could see what was coming. The record was open, he said, and nobody could claim they didn’t know.
Trump labeled the judge’s move as illegal overreach by a highly political figure who’s now out of control. He said the decision is costing the nation dearly and turns the court system into a mockery.
The ballroom, in his view, is critical for national security, and no single judge should have the power to block something so historic and militarily necessary.
Since the project started, it has been a flashpoint. The National Trust sued at the end of last year, saying that federal laws require proper congressional approval, environmental reviews, and public input before parts of the East Wing can be torn down and a 90,000-square-foot ballroom can be built.
Judge Leon had allowed some work to continue earlier but shifted in late March, issuing an injunction that stopped above-ground construction while apparently leaving underground portions untouched for now. Appeals have kept things moving in the meantime.
Trump has long pushed the idea as a long-overdue upgrade. Past presidents hosted state dinners in tents on the lawn because the existing space couldn’t accommodate large crowds.

He has described the finished ballroom as the finest anywhere, a complement to the historic White House that would at last solve security and logistical problems for high-risk events.
The White House officials and other project supporters see it as smart, forward-thinking, especially given threats from drones, missiles, and other modern risks.
On the other side of the coin, critics, including the preservation group, worry about bypassing normal processes for such a major change to one of America’s most iconic buildings.
They argue the president can’t simply decide on his own to reshape federal property without Congress stepping in.
The back-and-forth in court.
Earlier rulings allowed excavation and foundation work to proceed, but the latest order from Leon put the brakes on visible above-ground progress.
Trump and his team have made strong appeals, citing national security needs and the fact that significant funds and materials are already committed as reasons for their actions.
Trump has made it clear in his Truth Social message that he won’t back down. He says the ballroom will be built because the country needs it now.
“This is a mockery of our Court System! The Ballroom is deeply important to our National Security, and no Judge can be allowed to stop this Historic and Militarily Imperative Project,” Trump concluded.
Meanwhile, the White House grounds remain a construction zone. Underground work will go on under the modified injunction.
