Four people have died after a 14-seater PSV matatu lost control and rolled several times on the Malindi-Garsen Highway.
The accident occurred on October 2 in the Kanagoni area of Kilifi County.
Reports indicate that the matatu’s rear tyres burst, causing it to skid off the road and overturn multiple times.
According to a witness, the accident occurred after the matatu suffered a flat tire, causing it to lose control.
The injured were rushed to Malindi General Hospital for emergency treatment, while authorities were deployed to the scene to manage the situation.
Four Die, Several Injured in Accident in Kilifi County
The matatu was traveling from Malindi to Masalani in Tana River County when the accident occurred.
At the scene of the accident, a crowd of onlookers had gathered, watching as emergency responders carefully removed the victims from the overturned matatu.
This is not the first time such a grisly accident has occurred in Kilifi County.
On June 17, grief struck the residents of Chewani Ward in Tana River County after their Member of the County Assembly (MCA) died in a road accident early in the morning.

Hamisi Iddi Deye died instantly after the saloon car he was traveling in collided with a stationary lorry in the Kurawa area of Adu Ward in Magarini Sub County, Kilifi County.
His driver narrowly escaped death, although the vehicle was extensively damaged.
The MCA was traveling from Malindi town towards Hola, Tana River County.
Magarini Sub County Police Commander Daniel Kiviu confirmed the accident, noting that details were still being verified by the Traffic Police on the ground.
The body of the first-term MCA, who had previously served as Governor Dhadho Godhana’s bodyguard, was taken to a private mortuary in Malindi town by Traffic Police officers.

14 Killed in Tragic Road Accidents Near Kikopey, Nakuru
On September 28, 2025, a series of tragic road accidents along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway claimed the lives of 20 people.
In one incident near Kikopey, a vehicle carrying family members visiting an ailing relative collided with a trailer, killing 14 people from the same family.
In the second accident, a patient who had survived an earlier crash, along with two family members and three paramedics, died when the ambulance transporting them lost control and collided with another vehicle.
Authorities are investigating both accidents, which have left families and residents in shock over the tragic loss of life on one of Kenya’s busiest highways.
