Indian firm Adani Group has issued a statement over reports of hurried approval of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) deal.
In a statement on Wednesday, September 18, the company has noted that the information is false urging media houses to remain factual.
Further, Adani has indicated that it has neither issued any statement on the deal, nor engaged with the media on the same.
“We have come across a report published by The Standard (Kenya) claiming that the Adani Group made a statement regarding the Kenya Airports Authority and the approval process of a proposal.
“We would like to clarify that this report is entirely false. The Adani Group has neither issued any such statement nor engaged with the media on this matter,” the company’s spokesperson has stated.
According to the now-flagged reports, the company’s proposal issued to the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) had already been cleared within 17 days.

Details of the Flagged Report
The flagged reports claimed that the Indian firm paid the government Ksh6.4 million for the proposal to be approved.
Further, it stated that court documents showed that the firm learned about the state of JKIA from Kenyan media.
This contradicted Transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Davis Chirchir’s statements that the deal had not been discussed to conclusion.
Chirchir adding that the final concession agreement ought to be signed by both parties before it is officially concluded.
According to the CS, the agreement must receive approval from several entities, including the KAA board, the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) committee and the National Treasury.
Also, he said that a legal review by the Attorney General, and a joint memorandum between the Ministry of Roads and Transport, the Attorney General, and the Treasury had to be agreed upon before being presented to the Cabinet for final approval.
