Former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been arrested by police.
The politician has confirmed that he has been taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.
However, he has said that he is unsure why he has been apprehended for questioning by the authorities.
On the other hand, his lawyer Ndegwa Njiru has revealed that he was arrested for utterances he made during a political gathering in Ruiru.
“Waititu arrested by DCI officers for an alleged utterance at Ruiru yesterday,” stated the lawyer.

Ferdinand Waititu and Opposition
Waitiu has been vocal about opposing the Kenya Kwanza regime’s unpopular policies including the JKIA- Adani takeover deal and the Social Health Authority (SHA) implementation.
Additionally, he has in the past weeks been calling for accountability and removal of President William Ruto from office alongside Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
On Sunday, September 29, Waititu and Kalonzo attended the Martin Janet Gospel Concert in Ruiru after a press conference over increasing abductions in the country.
“We travelled from Kitengela to Ruiru Stadium for the Martin Janet Gospel Concert. We are here at the Glorious Gospel Center Church to worship God with the people of Kitengela.
“We’re here to praise God for protecting and saving Bob Njagi’s life. Bob is one of the faces of the resistance movement, and we honor him for his sacrifices as well as the countless Kenyans who have been kidnapped, abducted and tortured by State security agents,” Kalonzo stated after the Kitengela visit.

Graft Case Against the Former Governor
In September 2023, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) obtained court orders to freeze Waititu’s assets after the court determined that he had a case to answer in the Ksh588 million tender scam.
Waititu was accused of illegally acquiring the property while serving as Kiambu governor prior to his impeachment in January 2020.
Moreover, investigators from EACC detailed that the tender in question was awarded to a company where the former governor’s proxies sit.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) claimed that Waititu, in an attempt to outsmart relevant investigative agencies, registered the properties in his wife’s, daughter’s name and proxy companies.
The former governor had maintained his innocence throughout the investigations.
