Information, Communication, and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary nominee William Kabogo has responded to involvement claims in the murder of Mercy Keino.
While addressing the vetting parliamentary committee, Kabogo refuted the claims stating that he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. He also denied knowing Mercy Keino in person.
“The honorable member has said that it is alleged that I had invited people to a party. Mr. Speaker, I want to say that that is not true. This is just a situation where you find yourself at a place at the wrong time,” stated Kabogo.
The former Kiambu Governor stated that the case of Mercy came to him two weeks after she had been interred.
William Kabogo says he was exonerated by the court
“The issue of Mercy Keino came to me two weeks after she was buried and even if I had met her the following day after that incident at the hotel, I would not have recognized her,” added Kabogo.
Kabogo further defended himself stating that an inquiry had been conducted in 2012 by the Magistrates Court, where he and his co-accused were acquitted. He added that after the conclusion of investigations, the court concluded that Mercy died after being hit by a hit-and-run vehicle.

“Suffice to say, Mr Speaker, an inquest was conducted in 2012 at Milimani Margistrate’s Court that took about a year and a half and all persons of interest were invited including those persons that had not been there including myself. I was cross-examined for six days and was exonerated but the judgment of that court. The court made a finding that Mercy Keino was a victim of a hit and run by a truck and that matter rested there, ” stated Kabogo.
While alluding to videos of the crime scene, the cabinet nominee also sympathized with the family of the late Mercy Keino.

I sympathize with the family of Mercy Keino and may her soul rest in peace,” said Kabogo.
