Former Kiambu Governor and Cabinet Secretary nominee for ICT, William Kabogo, has outlined strategies to address the issue of frequent call drops by major telecommunication companies including Safaricom if appointed to the position.
His remarks came after Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah questioned him on what revenue assurance systems he would implement, possibly through the Communications Authority (CA), to ensure the authority has a clear view of data usage, the duration of calls, and the services sold by companies like Safaricom to Kenyans.
Ichung’wah also raised concerns about frequent call drops, emphasizing that customers are rarely compensated for these disruptions.
Kabogo promises to solve call drops issues once he gets into office
Appearing before a parliamentary committee responsible for vetting nominees selected by President William Ruto, Kabogo stated that he would utilize regulatory frameworks and legislative measures to address the issue of call drops effectively.
“The use of regulatory frameworks and legislative measures can help us tackle the way big tech companies exploit African countries, particularly in call drop issues.”
“I have personally experienced numerous call drops with Safaricom. Whenever you contact them for an explanation, they often attribute it to technological glitches, frequency issues, or other excuses,” Kabogo stated.

He further emphasized that, if confirmed as ICT Cabinet Secretary, he would ensure accountability from telecommunication companies.
“This will become a thing of the past. We should have access to call logs to determine the frequency of call drops and hold companies accountable for compensating customers for these service failures,” he added.
Kabogo also pledged to fix expiry of data bundles which he promised to delve into once appointed as CS for ICT.
Former Kiambu Governor addresses reports linking him to drug trafficking
“I have never ever dealt with drugs of any kind all my life. I invite Kenyans also to have a look at the dossier that the late George Saitoti brought to the house,” he said.
“It is a dossier that if it could have been given to Inspector Mwala it would not pass his table for a script. The only drug I use, and carry is Panadol.”
