Kenya Airways has said it diverted some flights to Mombasa after heavy overnight rainfall in Nairobi and the surrounding areas.
In a statement on March 7, Kenya Airways stated that the adverse weather has also caused delays and disruptions to several other scheduled flights, including those departing today from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
Passengers are advised that flight times may change as the airline works to return operations to normal later this evening.
“The heavy overnight downpour in parts of Nairobi and its environs caused disruption to some of our scheduled flights. Due to the adverse weather conditions, some of our flights were also diverted to Mombasa,” read part of the statement.
The airline said its teams are working to restore normal operations later this evening.

Kenya Airways apologized for the inconvenience, noting that the disruptions were beyond its control.

This comes amid Kenya Airways temporarily suspended repatriation flight to and from Dubai following security guidance from Dubai Airport authorities.
The decision came against the backdrop of escalating tensions in the Middle East following the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, which has disrupted air travel
The airline apologized for the inconvenience and said the safety of its crew and passengers remains the top priority.

Heavy Rains Leave 10 People Dead, Vehicles Swept Away
On land, severe floods that struck Nairobi claimed at least ten lives.
Eight of the victims were swept away by rapidly rising waters, with some losing their lives while trapped in vehicles carried off by the strong currents.
While two additional fatalities occurred in separate electrocution incidents in different parts of the county during the floods.
At least 71 vehicles were stranded across the city as major roads became impassable due to heavy flooding.
The Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several parts of Nairobi and surrounding areas, leading to road closures, property damage, displacement and distress among affected communities.
