The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the licenses of 62 public service vehicle (PSV) drivers from seven transport operators following a compliance assessment that uncovered multiple violations and serious safety concerns.
The affected operators include Tahmeed Express Limited, Latema Travellers Bus and Safari Company, Meru Nissan Operators Sacco, Moline Prestige Services Shuttle Limited, MTrans Sacco Limited, and Enabled Mashariki Investment Limited.
“The Authority has suspended the licences of 62 drivers from seven public transport operators and mandated that they undergo re-testing. This action follows compliance assessment that revealed multiple violations and serious safety concerns,” read part of the statement.

NTSA Suspends Drivers Over Safety Violations
NTSA has directed the suspended drivers to undergo mandatory re-testing to confirm their competence and suitability to operate on Kenyan roads.
Additionally, the authority stated that besides re-testing the identified drivers, the affected operators must organize road safety awareness training for all their drivers and present selected vehicles for inspection.
The driver re-testing exercise will be part of the wider proactive efforts by the authority aimed at ensuring every driver possesses the requisite skills and competencies to safely operate on our roads.

NTSA added that several operators are currently under scrutiny to ensure their drivers and vehicles fully comply with established safety regulations.

Earlier, NTSA stated that during the festive season the authority has a safety system approach that shall include:
- Collaborating with the National Police Service to intensify targeted, multi-agency strategies emphasizing prevention over reaction
- Enforce IRSMS data transmission for real-time monitoring of PSVs and commercial fleets
- Localize road safety awareness drives and expand the Usalama Barabarani programme to focus on seat belt usage, speed and fatigue management.
- Empower passengers to report traffic violations such as speeding, drink driving, dangerous overtaking among others through education at the bus terminus
- Launch free pre-festive inspection clinics at the bus terminus
- Re-test drivers flagged via the NTSA Intelligent Road Safety Management System (IRSMS) and those captured during enforcement initiatives, to ascertain their competencies.
