Nominated Senator Hezena Lemaletian on Friday, November 17, cried foul over what she called an attack at the hands of goons during a parliamentary group meeting held in Nairobi.
In a statement, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominated Senator said that the goons attacked her and even stripped her naked in the meeting.
“Today, I was attacked at the ODM PG by goons. I am not in ODM because of him.
I will Never please him to stay. ODM upholds Democracy and Gender Non-Discrimination. If anything happens to me, he should be solely held responsible,” she stated.
ODM was however yet to speak on the allegations.
Lemaletian earned her seat in the Senate through a nomination as one of the representatives of women.
Her nomination came after playing an active role in the Azimio la Umoja Coalition campaigns preceding the 2022 general elections.
During the campaigns, Lemaletian who was by then known by the name “Queen of the North” made passionate speeches in the campaign rallies and in turn earned widespread fame.

Resolutions in the ODM PG meeting
According to a statement by Nominated Senator Edwin Sifuna, ODM MPs in the meeting were discussing various topics including the cost of living.
Sifuna noted that the party had taken great exception with what he called reluctance by Kenya Kwanza in addressing the issue of the cost of living caused by factors including taxation and levies.
Further, the members discussed the role of both houses of Parliament in prosecuting various legislations.
According to ODM, MPs in both houses have been reduced to rubber stamping directives of the Executive.

As such, the part resolved to step in speaking for Kenyans and oppose any legislation/bill/motion that is unfriendly to the people.
“We shall not be coerced or intimidated into doing what is not right for the country,” Sifuna underscored in the statement detailing the resolutions.
What’s more, the MPs deliberated on the state of devolution in the country and condemned what they called systematic dismantling of the devolution architecture through the passage of laws.
As per the resolutions, ODM affirmed that it would support of the decision by the Council of Governors to challenge such laws in court.

“We reiterate the challenge he posed for the government to table the g2g agreement with UAE and Saudi Governments and table proof of corporate tax payment by the contracted oil firms,” part of the resolutions read.
