President William Ruto has announced that the Shauri Moyo Affordable Housing Estate in Nairobi will be renamed Johana Ng’eno Estate.
Speaking at the funeral service for the late MP in Emurua Dikirr on March 6, Ruto said the decision honors the late Johana Ng’eno, who served as the chairman overseeing the development of one of the city’s largest affordable housing projects.
“Because Johana Ng’eno was on the committee for one of the largest estates in Nairobi, which accommodates 4,500 residents and is called Shauri Moyo, they recommended it be named after Johana Ng’eno. I am directing the Ministry of Housing to rename it Johana Ng’eno,” he said.
The estate, which accommodates 4,500 residents, will officially adopt the new name under the president’s directive.

President Ruto praised the late Johana Ng’eno as a leader who encouraged him to continue with the Affordable Housing project.
“Some people told me to stop talking about housing and the housing levy, but today, housing is transforming Kenya,” he said.
He added that Ng’eno closely monitored developments in the Mau hills, where 2,000 people living in tents were assisted and resettled.
For the remaining 12,000, Ruto said that funds will be allocated in the budget so that each person can find a place to live.
