President William Ruto has addressed the incident where officers from Nairobi County dumped garbage at the entrance of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) offices at Stima Plaza in Nairobi CBD.
Speaking on Sunday, February 2, Ruto said he made a phone call to Governor Johnson Sakaja and Kenya Power officials to stop the drama and solve their differences.

“I want to thank Sakaja. They made a mistake the other day, and I called both parties. I told them to stop doing such things. I am happy the governor asked for forgiveness because they did a mistake,” Ruto said.
Ruto praised Sakaja for apologizing after the incident that sparked criticism from leaders and Kenyans.

He stated that Sakaja’s decision to apologize shows that he is a strong leader.
The President called all leaders and government agencies to work together towards the development of Nairobi and the country.

“It takes a courageous and strong leader to say I am sorry. Governor congratulations for apologizing. We must now pick up from there and move forward together to build a strong city and nation,” Ruto said.
Ruto Pledges to Make Nairobi Face of Kenya
Ruto emphasized that Nairobi is the face Kenya, and all leaders must work towards make the city attractive.
He stated that the government will allow Nairobi to be dirty and will strive to make it the face of the nation.
“We must change the face of Nairobi. Our capital city cannot be dirty and a place where children don’t go to school. We must give the true face of Kenya using Nairobi,” he added.

Sakaja Issues Public Apology
KPLC offices at Stima Plaza were closed down on February 24 after officers from Nairobi County dumped garbage outside the entrance.
Kenya Power owed the county Ksh.4.9 billion in unpaid wayleave fees while the Company said Nairobi County owes it Ksh3.01 billion in electricity bill.
Commenting after the incident, Sakaja criticized the incident stating that it was the intention of the county government.
“It was of course unfortunate, that one of the trucks tipped garbage. That was not the intention, that is not how Nairobi County operates, and our own issue will be dealt with internally,” Sakaja said.

Meeting to Solve Differences
On February 26, Nairobi County Government and Kenya Power agreed to end their dispute after a meeting convened by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.
The meeting, which brought together Sakaja and Energy Cabinet Secretary (CS) Opiyo Wandayi.
