The National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetang’ula has issued a statement after the anti-Finance Bill protesters on Tuesday, June 25 stormed parliament.
In a statement on June 26, Wetang’ula acknowledged that he is not a stranger to the conversations that have been going on in this country with regards to the Finance Bill and the general state of the economy of the Nation.

He praised the youth for taking the lead in this discourse, expressing that it is a privilege to witness their active engagement in shaping the nation’s future.
“However, it is imperative that these discussions are held in a structured and meaningful manner, within the confines of the law in order for them to realize the desired results,” he said.

“Violence, disrespect and wanton destruction of property and blatant attack on public institutions shall not be condoned.”
Wetang’ula Speaks After Gen Z Stormed Parliament
The angry Kenyan youth stormed inside the Parliament building after lawmakers had just passed the contentious bill that would introduce a raft of new taxes.

The protesters successfully breached the security protocols at the Parliament, after overpowering the anti-riot Police Officers and set the section of the building on fire.
Additionally, they managed to damage part of the Parliament fence before entering the Kitchen, and eating the food prepared.
Inside the Senate are scenes of destruction, as furniture is in disarray, seats strewn around, cupboards ransacked, flags torn, and windows broken.
The law enforcers present on the ground focused on evacuating the MPs through the underground tunnel of Parliament.
MPs Running for their Lives
Some legislators were spotted rushing towards parliament’s emergency exit.
Reports indicated that some fainted, while others were overwhelmed as parliamentary Sergeant at Arms worked hard to save the lawmakers from irate demonstrators who were baying for their blood.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi and some other MPs were evacuated from Parliament under heavy security and transported via ambulance.
Vehicles belonging to members of parliament were driven to safety in the basement area moments before the melee.
Simultaneously, legislators trapped inside the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) offices were seen being evacuated by helicopters.
As a result, dozens of the protesters sustained injuries while several others were feared to have killed from the ensuing scuffle with security officers.
In response to the vandalism and losses, President William Ruto warned the orchestrators of violence that the state would deploy security officers to maintain order.
Defense Cabinet Secretary on his side gazetted the deployment of Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) to support the National Police in restoring order.
