Airtel Kenya has announced that it is offering 100% cashback on transaction fees to all customers following a recent service disruption on its Airtel Money platform.
The telco confirmed on Sunday, April 6, that services had been fully restored and thanked customers for their patience during the temporary downtime.

Moreover, the system upgrade was conducted from midnight to 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 5. During that period, all Airtel Money services were unavailable.
“During this time, all Airtel Money services will be unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience,” stated Airtel in their earlier announcement to customers on Saturday, April 5.

How Customers Will Receive the Cash
To show appreciation, Airtel is rolling out a limited-time offer dubbed “Rudishiwa”, which will refund customers the full value of their transaction fees in the form of airtime.

The offer applies to Bank to Airtel Money transfers, Paybill payments, and Agent withdrawals, and will be valid until 11:59 PM on April 6, 2025.
“In appreciation of your patience and support, we are pleased to inform you that we will be offering all our customers 100% cashback (Rudishiwa) of their transaction fees as airtime on Bank to Airtel Money, Paybill payments and Agent Withdrawals.
“This offer will be valid until 11:59PM 6th April, 2025,” stated Airtel.
Additionally, the company noted that a second phase of the system upgrade is expected in the near future, with details to be communicated via a subsequent notice.
“As earlier advised, we will be running the 2nd phase of the system upgrade at a later date which will be advised through a subsequent notice. We thank you for being part of our journey as we continue to innovate and grow together,” added the Telco.

Airtel Kenya Mobile Money Growth
The number of mobile money subscribers of Airtel Money in Kenya increased by 4.1% to reach 42.3 million in the three months leading up to December 2024.
A report from the Communications Authority (CA) highlighted that both Airtel’s GSM business and Airtel Money saw positive and sustained growth during the quarter.
Of the 42,302,833 mobile money subscribers in Kenya between October and December 2024, Airtel Money accounted for 8.9% of the market, equating to 3,764,952 customers.
Therefore, it marked an increase from the previous quarter, where Airtel Money held 7.6% of the 40,633,292 mobile money subscribers.
In response to the report, Airtel Kenya described the growth as a “glimmer of hope” for Kenyans.
