China Square Mall has revealed progress in the establishment of its second outlet in Kenya.
In a statement expressing their excitement, the mall shared photos of the ongoing construction of its new branch at the Waterfront Mall in Karen.
“Exciting times ahead! The countdown for the Waterfront branch opening has begun,” the mall stated on their Facebook page.
Moreover, the construction works, as projected in the photos, are in the final stages. In addition, parts of the mall have already been stocked with various products.
Some of the products stocked in completed shelves include clocks, utensils, decor materials- among others an indication that the outlet would be yet another one-stop shop.
Consequently, the management of the Waterfront Mall acknowledged the upcoming tenancy of China Square.
“Get ready to shop your heart out at China Square Kenya, opening soon at Waterfront Karen,” Waterfront Karen stated.
The mall will be China Square’s second in the country after the controversial launch of a one-stop shop in KU’s Uni City Mall.

Closure of China Square Mall
China square graced the headlines in February 2023, following a statement by then Cabinet Secretary for the ministry of Trade and Investment, Moses Kuria.
“We welcome Chinese investors to Kenya as manufacturers not traders,” Moses Kuria stated saying that the retailer was flooding the market and putting Kenyan traders out of business.
This led to the closure of the shopping mall on February 26.
However, in late March 2023, the mall reopened its doors to the public following several engagements between the Kenya Government and the Chinese Community in Kenya.
“The Chamber looks forward to an equal and fair treatment of all businesses across board to ensure a conducive business environment for all and promote cordial relations based on mutual trust and benefit,” the Kenya Chinese Chamber of Commerce noted then in a press statement.
“We appreciate the Kenya Government’s support in allowing the Chinese Community to do business and contribute to Kenya’s growth and development efforts through employment creation and contribution to Kenya’s tax revenue,” they added.
