The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has onboarded more than 500 fuel stations onto its Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) fuel module.
In a statement on February 13, KRA stated that the onboarding represents roughly 16 percent of all fuel stations nationwide, following the module’s rollout in December 2025.
“Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has onboarded more than 500 fuel stations onto the Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) fuel module following its rollout in December 2025,” read part of the statement.
The eTIMS fuel module integrates stations into the Authority’s digital platform, ensuring all fuel outlets issue electronic receipts to customers as proof of purchase.
The system is designed to enhance transaction visibility, improve accuracy in tax declarations, and enable real-time transmission of sales data for compliance and taxation purposes.

Speaking during the launch, Deputy Commissioner of the Large Taxpayers’ Office, Ezekiel Obura, said revenue collection within the fuel sector is expected to double once the module is fully rolled out.
He urged the public to request receipts after every purchase and called on stations yet to be onboarded to do so promptly to avoid disputes with KRA and potential enforcement action.
The module was piloted in selected stations between September and December 2024 to test integration, gather operational feedback, and strengthen compliance frameworks ahead of nationwide implementation, which began in January 2025.
Although the initial onboarding deadline was June 30, 2025, KRA extended it to December 2025 in response to stakeholder requests for additional time.
At the event, Chief Manager of the eTIMS Office, Hakamba Wangwae, described the module as a “game changer” for tax compliance and transparency.
“It simplifies the tax process for taxpayers and enhances oversight for the Authority, supporting Kenya’s broader goal of a fully digital, efficient, and accountable tax system,” Hakamba said.

How it Works
Under the new system, eTIMS receipts are issued immediately at the point of sale upon request and are available for both individual motorists and businesses.
Each electronic invoice is transmitted in real time to KRA’s system, ensuring every fuel purchase is accurately recorded and can be used as proof in accounting records, tax filings, and business deduction claims.

Benefits for Fuel Stations
The eTIMS fuel module automates processes, enhancing efficiency and eliminating manual work. It enables faster service delivery, improving customer experience at the forecourt.
According to KRA, the system also supports PIN capture, mobile payments, and loyalty programs, allowing seamless integration with station operations.
Invoice accuracy has been improved, and reconciliation is simplified, while sales data feeds directly into simplified VAT returns for easier compliance.
Additionally, the module allows real-time validation, enabling quicker supplier payments and faster VAT refunds.
