The family of police officer Samuel Kaitwai in Naserian, Kajiado West is mourning the death of their son who succumbed to injuries while serving in the Haiti Multinational Security Support Mission.
Samuel Kaitwai was announced as the first police officer to die in the Haiti mission.

According to a statement from the Multinational Security Support Mission, Kaitwai died from bullet wounds sustained in a gun battle with Haitian gangs.
He was rushed to a hospital after the shootout but succumbed to his injuries.

“He has been in Haiti for 6 months. His death was heartbreaking, but we are glad he did not die due to drug abuse, he died while serving this country,” his father Lesaru said.
The 28-year-old police officer has been described as a man who was loyal to his country until his untimely demise. Speaking in a media interview, Kaitwai’s father requested the government to bring his body back home.

He went on to note that the fallen police officer was a “big helper” of the family. Before his death, Kaitwai was in the process of building a house for his family.

“I am humbly requesting the government to bring his body back to Kenya. We want to confirm if he is truly the one,” his father pleaded.
“He was a big helper in this family, he was even building a house for this family,” his brother said.
His Widow’s Cry
The police officer has left a scar on the lives of his children, forever to be remembered. He has left a wife and two children behind, according to his father.
His wife Naomi Samuel narrated her last conversation with him. She tearfully said that it was difficult to have a phone conversation with him because of the nature of his job.
However, Kaitwai continuously called to ask about the wellbeing of his family and his children.

MSS and US Speaks
The Kenyan Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) stated that Constable Kaitwai was killed while fighting for the people of Haiti.
Additionally, US envoy to Kenya Marc Dillard, expressed his condolences to the family.

“The United States is grateful for the courageous Kenyan police who are serving in harm’s way to keep our world safer,” he said.

Katwai has been described as a dedicated police officer who served in Mandera and Wajir since 2021, before he was drafted as part of the team sent to Haiti.
