A senior police officer in Mombasa was found dead in his house under unclear circumstances
Inspector of Police Michael Mwita was found dead by his colleagues according to police reports.
His lifeless body was found next to his bathroom after his landlord raised alarm over smoke which was emanating from his house.
Mwita was the senior officer in charge of anti-crime unit at the Kiembeni Police station.
Kevin Nyongesa, Kiembeni estate landlord told the police that smoke was spotted by his wife who attempted to reach the officer on phone in vain.
“Nyongesa told detectives that his wife had spotted smoke emanating from one of the tenants’ house, who is a police officer. When she tried to call him, her calls went unanswered,” read part of the police report.
Consequently, Police rushed to the scene and found the door locked from the inside. The officers were forced to break the window to gain access to the house.
The officer’s body, which bore severe burn injuries, was found lying next to the bathroom half naked.
Scene of Crime Officers processed the scene as investigations into the incident kick-off.
Mwita’s body was moved to Jocham Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
