Migingo Girls Secondary School in Kisumu County is in grief after its Deputy Principal Roselyn Nyawanda was allegedly murdered by her son.
The son reportedly set his mother’s body on fire moments after murdering her.
Nyanza Regional Police Commander Karanja Muiruri confirmed the incident
“The matter is still under investigation. The deceased’s body has been transferred to a mortuary awaiting an autopsy,”
“We are currently holding the deceased’s son at Ahero police station as we find out what exactly transpired.” Said Muiruri
Witnesses told the police that the suspect had been struggling with a mental disease and had just returned from the hospital.
A source within the school compound who sought anonymity said they heard a commotion in the deceased’s house but upon arrival, they found the school’s deputy’s lifeless body.
They say the body had been partially burnt.
“It is an unfortunate incident. We have lost a hardworking teacher, dedicated to her work and a role model to many,” the source said.
The suspect is said to have used a kitchen knife to stab his mother and then lit some of her clothes before closing himself in a room.
The body of the deceased is at the Star Annex mortuary.
