Four rifles were stolen by an unknown number of people who raided Kipasi patrol base in Mbita, Homa Bay county.
The incident happened on Wednesday night
The officers who were supposed to be on duty were not present when the incident happened .
County police commander Samson Kine said they initially escaped with three AK47 rifles, three G3 rifle sand 130 bullets .
The thieves however dropped two of the rifles on the way as they escaped.
A search team recovered the dropped weapons on Thursday .
“We are still pursuing the issue to know how and why it happened that way as part of efforts to get the thieves,” he said.
The Kipasi patrol base usually has six officers.
Police authorities said on Thursday they are investigating the circumstances under which the incident happened.
