Dagoretti North Members of Parliament Beatrice Elachi on Wednesday May 28 delivered a thought-provoking prayer on pressing societal issues, including the contentious topic of tenders and the growing concern over pornography.
Elachi made the prayer during the 2025 National Prayer Breakfast, an annual event, attended by President William Ruto and a host of leaders, including delegations from foreign countries.
The MP prayed for the spirit of social media that she said threatens the country.
She expressed worry about the youth, describing them as hopeless and influenced by social media, and called for divine support to help the nation stand for what is best for the country and future generations.
Prayer For Integrity Among Leaders
Elachi, known for her outspoken stance on political and social issues, seized the opportunity to emphasize the importance of transparency in the allocation of government tenders.
She prayed for integrity among leaders, urging them to prioritize public service over personal gain.

“May our leaders be guided by fairness and accountability in the stewardship of public resources, ensuring tenders serve the people and not the pockets of a few,” she stated.
Elachi Prays Against Pornography
Further turning to the issue of pornography, Elachi expressed deep concern about its impact on the youth and societal values.
She prayed for protection against the pervasive influence of explicit content, calling for collective action to safeguard families and promote wholesome content.
“We pray for our children, that they may be shielded from the dangers of pornography, and for wisdom to guide our nation toward moral clarity,” she said, emphasizing the role of faith in addressing modern vices.
Additionally, she emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in rebuilding the nation, aligning with the event’s theme, “Rise and Rebuild.”
She called upon leaders to embrace humility, compassion, and a commitment to serving all Kenyans, transcending political and social divisions.

Her remarks came at a time when Ruto’s administration faces significant online scrutiny. Since the 2024 youth-led protests, which saw Parliament overrun and forced Ruto to dismiss his Cabinet, the President has struggled to win over a digitally active Generation Z.
Social media campaigns like “Ruto Must Go” have persisted, with young Kenyans using platforms to voice dissatisfaction with policies like high taxation and the cost of living.
Relationship Between Government and the People
The National Prayer Breakfast came at a time when Kenya is grappling with ethical questions in governance and the impact of digital media on younger generations.
In January 2025, Elachi publicly rebuked her critics during a church service in Dagoretti North, suggesting that those dissatisfied with Kenya should leave.
