Police have temporarily closed the Thika Superhighway after a fuel tanker overturned causing a heavy traffic snarl-up on the busy road.
The accident involving the tanker and a lorry happened on Thursday, July 14 between the outbound of Roysambu and Githurai 45 estates.
Law enforcement officers have urged motorists to look for alternative routes as a safety precaution after blocking the road on both ends.
Also at the scene of the accident are officials from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) and Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) who are supporting the police in ensuring the safety of motorists and civilians.
Video footage circulating on social media shows fule seeping out of the tanker into the road.
