An armed gang conducted an overnight raid on Amlight Resources Company Limited, a gold mining firm located in Rarieda Sub-County, and stole equipment valued at millions of shillings.
The incident took place in North Ramba Central Asembo, where the gang reportedly broke through a section of the wall, overpowering the watchmen who were on duty and forcing them to flee.
While speaking to press, the Director of Amlight Resources, Amos Barasa Mabonga, reported that this raid marks the fifth attack on the company this year. He highlighted that the first incident occurred in January and tragically resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
“The thieves broke through the wall and stole company equipment worth millions, this is the fifth attack this year, the first one was back in January, and it led to the death of two people,” he said.

“As we speak the case has never seen its day in court, the file is still in the office of the ODPP and because no action has been taken the people orchestrating these attacks feel like they can do whatever they want,” he said.
Additionally, an employee of Amlight, Charles Otieno, while remarking on the incident, accused local security and government officials of colluding with a rival mining company in a bid to undermine Amlight operations.
He warned that the situation could escalate into further violence in the area if it continues without intervention.
Otieno also expressed his disappointment that, despite having identified the suspects, no action has been taken against them.
“We will no longer entertain these acts, we’ve had enough. If the government doesn’t act, they’ll be collecting bodies here,” Otieno warned.
Amlight Company Lawyer Accuses Law Enforcement of Laxity
The company’s lawyer, Danstan Omari, while speaking to media emphasized the urgency of the situation. He criticized the area’s law enforcement agencies for what he called laxity in the matter and blamed them for the repeated attacks.
He said that invaders have infiltrated Amlight’s land and illegally dug tunnels despite a court order halting mining activities in the area.
“The questions before us in this scenario is a question of how we deal with investors like Amos who has spent millions to invest here, this is a case of a Kenyan investor being harassed,” Omari said.
