Grief has engulfed the village of Karunga, Ndumberi, in Kiambu County after it was alleged that a woman paid youth to beat her son, leading to his death.
Speaking to the media, the villagers claimed the woman paid goons to punish her 17-year-old son named Ken after he was accused of stealing.

One of the neighbors narrated how the mother was insulting and threatening her son before he was attacked and killed.
“That child does not bother anyone and does not insult people. But yesterday afternoon, she was chasing him around. Ken’s death did not come from someone else; it came from his mother because in the afternoon she was saying Ken would die like a dog, and the child was running away as she told him that,” said the first villager.

The villager said the woman was also insulting people and questioned whether she was sick or mentally unstable to make such a decision.
“This area was hers yesterday, insulting people. We want to know if that mother is insane or sick so we can understand why she killed Ken. Why was she saying the child would die like a dog?” she asked.

Residents Push Mother to Name Killers
Besides, the witness maintained that the woman knew her son’s killers since she paid them to attack and kill him.
“We do not know them, but she knows them because she paid them. So, she should stop saying she does not know about her child’s death. She knows because even in the afternoon she was telling him he would die like a dog, why would you tell a child that?” she posed.
The second villager said the neighbors camped outside the home after learning of Ken’s attacks and death.

She explained that Ken was beaten mercilessly, adding that the suspects must be brought to book.
“We have come here because of Ken’s death; he was beaten by people. We want to know who they are because when I found him, Ken was beaten and had bad things done to him,” the second villager said.
According to the neighbors, Ken’s mother sometimes appeared to be mad, but organizing her son’s attack and murder proved them otherwise.
“Sometimes you would think she is sick, but the way she went to Duberi and took those people, paid them, and told them to beat her child, I do not see how she is insane.”

Villagers Ask Kiambu Police to Conduct Investigations
Additionally, the first villager questioned why the woman resorted to hiring goons to beat her son instead of reporting him to the police if there was any issue. She asked if the paid goons are more powerful than the authorities tasked with maintaining law and order.
“There is a government to hear you and help you. Now we want to know if those people she paid have overpowered our government so that they go to them,” she said. “That is what we want to know. If they have overpowered the government, then we should remove the government and let her bring people to kill people.”
This was echoed by the second villager who stated that Ken will only be buried after his killers have been identified and arrested.
“The government should investigate, arrest those people, otherwise, there will be no burial for Ken,” she said.
Ken’s body was taken to Kiambu mortuary as police continue with investigations on the incident.
