Security Guards Under Fire for Torturing 50-Year-Old Man and Dumping Him in Forest

A family in Nyeri is demanding justice after five security guards at Solio Ranch allegedly assaulted a 50-year-old man.

While addressing the media, Simon Mwangi recounted that he was kidnapped on Wednesday, January 8, after leaving his boda boda work.

“When I stepped off my motorbike, five men approached me and informed me that I was under arrest for trespassing at Solio Ranch.

They took my phone and the Ksh 13,000 cash I had. This prompted me to ask why they took my money without taking me to court for any offense. That is when the security guards decided to assault me,” Mwangi narrated.

Mwangi further explained that the guards initially promised to take him to the ranch office to face the law, but this did not happen.

“They handcuffed my hands and legs with wire and tied me to a tree. After restraining me, they began kicking me in the chest. You can see the scars on my face,” he added.

The following morning, the guards mocked him, saying, “Has the lion not come to rescue you?”

Simon’s release came after residents of Kyeni on Friday January 10 barricaded Nyeri Nyahururu road demanding for his release.

Mwangi was later found dumped in a thicket, lying helplessly near the road.

“Someone came behind me and untied my legs. I then managed to gather strength and free my hands. Soon after, a crowd began to gather upon seeing me lying on the road,” Mwangi said.

Simon’s brother, Francis Wanjohi now demands justice following the ordeal Mwangi went through.

KWS officers on the spot for harassing a local

A similar incident took place on November 20, 2024, when a widely circulated video captured Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers confronting a man for allegedly collecting firewood in a protected forest within Lunga Lunga.

One of the officers remarked, “Today is Friday; you should have gone to the mosque for prayers instead of being here stealing firewood.”

Shortly after, the rangers were seen forcing the man to lie on the ground, with a female officer proceeding to strike him multiple times. The man’s painful groans could be heard as he was being whipped by the female officer at the scene.
