Detectives in Nakuru are investigating the bizarre murder of a 22-year-old Mount Kenya University (MKU) student whose body was dumped in a maize plantation Kiamunyi area of Rongai Constituency on Monday afternoon.
Police reports indicate that the student’s personal belonging including her student and national IDs, and a bus fare travel receipt from Thika to Nakuru were found next to her body.
First responders at the scene, while speaking to the press, disclosed about the last moments of the deceased according to the details of her bus fare travel receipt, revealing that she travelled from Thika to Nakuru on Saturday.
Kiamunyi Location Senior Chief Wilson Maraga made the revelation while confirming the incident, adding that the body was found in the Mercy Njeri Sub-location.
“This girl had come from far. The ticket that she had showed that she might have travelled to Nakuru from Thika on Saturday. It seems she arrived in Nakuru in the evening because the ticket had been booked at around 2 pm thereby, ” said the chief.
Further, the Chief maintained that the student may have been killed elsewhere before being dumped in the area.

MKU Student found murdered
Chief Maraga pointed out that there were no signs of struggle at the scene where the body was discovered while also maintaining that the area is generally peaceful and that the case is an isolated one.
“We suspect that she could have been murdered elsewhere before being dumped here because there is no sign of struggle at the scene where the body had been dumped, ” the chief added.
“This is a rare occurrence as our area is generally peaceful and free from major security issues.”

Brighton Roman, a resident, on his part, while confirming that he was the one who first spotted the body, said that he was returning home from a shop when he stumbled on the body.
He raised the alarm, and three nearby farmworkers quickly joined him. One of the witnesses contacted the area assistant chief, who rushed to the scene.
“There was a maize plantation. I saw a human body lying and what first came into my mind was maybe it was someone who was working on the plantation,” he said.
Detectives have commenced investigations to ascertain the cause of death and trail her killers. The body of the deceased was moved to the Nakuru referral Hospital.
The Mount Kenya University student murder case came days after another student from the University of Nairobi (UoN) Chiromo Campus, was found dead, with her body dumped in a thicket in Kasarani’s Mwiki area, Nairobi.
The family of the student Mercy Kwamboka said that she disappeared from her home in Pipeline on September 28 after receiving a phone call at 11 pm.
She was later found dead under mysterious circumstances.
