The Ministry of Education has outlined the procedure for learners and parents to download Grade 10 joining instructions through the official placement portal.
On December 30, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba said joining instructions for Grade 10 learners had been uploaded to the placement portal and were available for access.
“Joining instructions are available for download effective today, 30th December, 2025, on the placement portal,” read part of the statement.
Overall, 88 per cent of learners have now been placed according to their original or revised choices.
However, learners seeking further consideration will have another opportunity to apply for review between January 6 and January 9, 2026.
Current placement data show that 51 per cent of learners have been admitted to the STEM pathway, 38 per cent to the Social Sciences pathway, and 11 per cent to the Arts and Sports Science pathway.

How to Check Grade 10 Placement Results for 2026
Learners and parents can access Grade 10 placement outcomes for the 2026 academic year through the Ministry of Education’s placement portal.
After clicking on “Placement” on the website, applicants are required to enter the learner’s assessment number and junior school KNEC code in the respective fields provided.
Once the details are filled in, users must confirm the Data Privacy Declaration, which states that the individual accessing the portal is the learner, a parent or legal guardian, or an authorized school official, and that the information will be used strictly for official educational purposes in line with the Data Protection Act, 2019.
After agreeing to the declaration, users can submit the details to view the learner’s Grade 10 placement results.
Additionally, candidates can check their senior school placements by sending an SMS with their KNEC assessment number to 22263.
The text service costs Ksh30 per SMS and provides the learner with information about the school to which they have been assigned.
The SMS option is particularly convenient for students and parents who may not have ready access to the internet or computers.

Latest Update on Placement Reviews
The placement of learners into Grade 10 Senior School began on December 14, 2025, and ran until December 19, 2025, when the initial placement results were released.
Learners were subsequently allowed to seek a review of their placements starting December 23, 2025.
The government extended the revision window to January 9, 2026.
According to the Ministry of Education, a total of 355,457 review applications were received, with each learner permitted to submit up to four requests.
Of these, 211,636 learner applications were approved.
The remaining applications were declined mainly due to limited school capacity or the unavailability of preferred subject combinations in the selected institutions.
Popular national schools such as Alliance High School, Kenya High School and Mangu High School each received up to 20,000 applications, despite having an average intake capacity of about 500 learners.
