The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has opened training for examiners of the 2026 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
In a notice on February 17, KNEC stated that the training fee is Ksh 10,500 and will be paid only by shortlisted applicants after receiving instructions. Those who are not shortlisted should not make any payments.
“KNEC will conduct a training of examiners for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations between March and April 2026. The training fee is Kenya Shillings Ten Thousand Five Hundred (Kshs.10,500.00),” the notice read partly.
Additionally, the training will be delivered through a combination of online and residential sessions.
Shortlisted candidates will be notified on how to access the online component and the venues and reporting dates for the residential training.
Qualified examiners will be deployed by KNEC to mark KJSEA and KCSE papers in accordance with the official recruitment guidelines for each subject.
“Qualified examiners will be deployed by KNEC to mark the KJSEA and KCSE examinations using the criteria stipulated in the guidelines for recruitment of examiners for each paper.,” KNEC noted.

Eligibility & How to Apply
According to the KNEC notice, applicants must be Kenyan citizens and registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or the Public Service Commission for TVET instructors.
They should have at least three years of teaching experience, and teachers under disciplinary action or serving an interdiction are ineligible.
“Teachers under disciplinary action or serving interdiction are not eligible,” the notice warned.

Additional requirements include:
- KCSE qualifications for KCSE marking, or a Diploma in Education for KJSEA marking.
- Tutors in TVET institutions are encouraged to apply for Home Science, Computer Studies, and Pre-Technical Studies.
- Teachers of Woodwork, Metalwork, and Building Construction are eligible for KJSEA Pre-Technical Studies marking.
Application Procedure
Applicants must access the KNEC examiners’ portal at https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke/.
- Candidates with CP2 accounts should log in and select “Apply for Training.”
- New applicants must create an account, provide personal and academic details, select the examination (KJSEA or KCSE), choose the paper(s) to apply for, and upload supporting documents.
“Shortlisted candidates will be notified on how to pay the training fee and download the training manual,” KNEC assured.
