Menyenya S.D.A High School is a public extra-county secondary school sponsored by the Seventh-day Adventist Church and located in Nyamira County.
The mixed boarding institution is widely recognised for consistent academic performance in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations, strong Christian values, and a disciplined learning environment.
Over the years, the school has grown into one of the leading Adventist-sponsored secondary schools in the Nyanza region.
History and Academics
Menyenya S.D.A High School was established in 1975 by the Seventh‑day Adventist Church community to address the acute shortage of secondary school education in the Menyenya–Borabu area of Nyamira County.
At the time, access to post‑primary education was limited, leading church leaders and local residents to contribute resources to start a faith‑based learning institution that could serve the wider region.
The land on which the school stands was acquired from a British settler by the Menyenya Co‑operative Society.
The settler’s house initially served multiple purposes, housing administrative offices, classrooms, and student dormitories.
Servants’ quarters were converted into staff housing, allowing the school to operate as a modest boarding institution in its formative years.
As enrolment increased, the Ministry of Agriculture provided an additional house within the compound, which was repurposed to support boarding and administrative functions.
Continuous support from parents, the Government of Kenya, the SDA Church, and well‑wishers enabled the gradual expansion of infrastructure.

Today, Menyenya S.D.A High School occupies approximately 20 acres of land and stands as one of the most established Adventist‑sponsored secondary schools in Nyamira County, with a reputation for discipline, moral uprightness, and steady academic growth.
Academics
Menyenya S.D.A High School currently teaches and examines its senior secondary classes under the 8-4-4 system, leading to the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
At the same time, the school is aligning with Kenya’s phased transition to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
While CBC is fully in place for earlier levels nationally, Menyenya is preparing for senior school pathways by strengthening skills-based learning through ICT, updated schemes of work, and continuous assessment resources hosted via its official platforms.
The school has consistently demonstrated strong academic performance at the KCSE level.
Academic performance remained strong in the 2025 KCSE results, with the school presenting 333 candidates, 324 of whom scored C+ or above.
The results presented a 97.3 per cent university qualification rate and an overall mean grade of B‑, placing the school among the top performers in Nyamira County and the wider Nyanza region.
