Muruguru Girls is a public girls’ secondary school categorized as C2 under the new Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.

Founded in 1972 by the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (P.C.E.A.), the institution began as a mixed-day secondary school with a modest pioneer class of seven students: five girls and two boys.
Over the years, the school has experienced remarkable growth in student enrolment, infrastructure, and academic standing.
In the 1980s, boarding facilities were introduced for girls, while boys continued as day scholars.
The institution remained co-educational until 1998, when it transitioned to a fully-fledged girls’ boarding school under the leadership of then-principal Irene Wambugu, who served from 1993 to 1998.
In recognition of its consistent growth and commitment to quality education, the school was upgraded to an Extra-County Girls’ Boarding School in 2020.

Admission Details
To be admitted to this school, applicants must have completed primary education and present a KCPE certificate.
They are also required to submit an original birth certificate and a copy, two recent passport-size photographs, and a copy of the parents’ or guardians’ national ID.
Students applying for transfer must provide a transfer letter from their previous school, while all applicants must submit a medical report as part of the admission process.

KCSE Performance
In the 2024 KCSE examinations, the school registered 266 candidates under KNEC Code No. 08202010.
The results included 2 students with grade A, 7 with A-, and 26 with B+. A total of 49 candidates scored a B, while 63 attained a B-.
Additionally, 60 students achieved a C+, 40 obtained a C, and 16 recorded a D-, with three candidates scoring a D.
