Nyamari Ongegu, popularly known as Nyashinski, a Kenyan musician, has signed a historic recording deal with global music label Sony Music, marking a major milestone in his career.
Nyashinski was welcomed to the label alongside the release of his new single, Tai Chi, which is expected to set the tone for his upcoming projects under Sony Music.
The announcement was made on Sony Music Africa’s official Instagram account on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
“Big welcome to the ‘Sony Music Africa’ Family @realshinski 🇰🇪 🐐 ‘Tai Chi’ out at midnight EAT,” read the statement.
Sony Music reacts after signing a deal with Nyashinski
Sean Watson, Managing Director of Sony Music Africa, said Nyashinski represents everything the world needs to see from East Africa, including authenticity, versatility, longevity, and artistic excellence.
He added that the partnership is about elevating the culture and giving East African voices a global platform.

Nyashinski also expressed his excitement about joining the label and global recognition.

Career of Resilience of Nyashinski
Nyashinski began his music journey in the early 2000s with the Kenyan rap trio Kleptomaniax. After the group went on hiatus, he spent several years abroad before returning in 2016.
He reintroduced himself with singles such as Now You Know and Malaika, showcasing a more mature and versatile sound.
