Court Postpones Hearing of Itumbi’s Case Over Security Concerns

A Nairobi court has postponed the defense hearing in a case against ICT Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) nominee Dennis Itumbi.

In the case, Itumbi was charged over a fake assassination letter on President William Ruto published on May 30, 2019.

Itumbi’s lawyer told the court on Monday, March 20 that his client could not be present for the hearing beacuse of the nationwide mass protests.

He further told the court that Itumbi was mentioned by the planners of the demonstartions which meant he had to stay away from the city for his personal safety.

The court allowed the application and postponed the matter to June 7.

Itumbi had said that he will call several Cabinet Secretaries and Members of Parliament to testify in his defense. Itumbi was placed on defense early last year after the prosecution closed its case.
