Mzungu Mjanjez, whose official name is Amy Brown, is a Kenyan content creator and influencer known for her creative skits, football-related content, and fluent Kiswahili.
In an interview with Teddy Ernest of The Kenya Times, Mzungu Mjanjez opens up about her love life, identity, the experiences of growing up as a white Kenyan, and how past relationships left her disillusioned.
She clarifies that although her ancestry traces back to England, she was born, educated, and raised in Nanyuki. She has spent almost her entire life in the country.
“I really am Kenyan. I was born and raised in Nanyuki. My grandfather served in the British Army, and my dad was born in Coventry. So, my roots are in England, but I was born in Kenya. My mom was born in Kenya. My dad was raised in Kenya, and they still live here,” she said.
Mjanjez narrated her unique experiences of being white in Kenya, including assumptions that she does not understand Kiswahili and that people would easily talk behind her back. She also talks of the ‘Mzungu prices’ where people inflate normal prices for her.
She recounts spending 12 years with the father of her two children. They met while she was still in high school. Apparently, Mjanjez handled most of the financial responsibilities, while the partner struggled with alcohol addiction and unemployment. She alleges that the relationship later became physically abusive, creating a toxic environment for her children and forcing her to quit.
After the breakup, she entered another relationship that ended after her fiancé went to Germany without informing her.
Her most recent relationship began shortly after she met a daring younger man in a TikTok live. Characterized by deceit, hypocrisy, and fake-life syndrome, the relationship ended in disappointment after Mjanjez found out that the young man’s entire life was a Scam.
