Nairobi Governor, Johnson Sakaja ordered the release of patients at Mbagathi Hospital who were detained after being discharged.
Speaking during the hospital visit on Friday, March 22, Sakaja promised to clear the bills for the patients with huge balances.
In a video clip shared on his social accounts, the governor is seen interacting with patients who were pleading with him for their release.
” Just help us,” the patients begged in unison.
Thereafter, the governor pledged to pay bills and release patients who had stayed for over one week.
He further explained that the aim was to create space for more patients to get treatment at the facility and also enable the detained patients to join their families.
Sakaja Orders Release of Patients
“There are those who have been discharged but are not able to go. I have ordered that they all be released from the facility. that they all go.
I will get the count of how many they are, and I will pay for them to join their families,” assured governor Sakaja.
While visiting the facility, the Nairobi governor found doctors attending to patients in their various departments.

In his video, Sakaja is captured having conversations with health workers at the facility.
He further welcomed them to work and praised them for being committed to their work while others were striking.
“Thank you for coming to work. You are doing great jobs,” the Nairobi governor acknowledged the doctors.
He had visited the hospital to confirm whether the county’s doctors had reported to work after he gave new directives following the ongoing strike.
Sakaja had ordered the doctors to resume to work on Thursday, March 22 after he held a meeting with Nairobi city county health sector leadership.

In addition, Sakaja had directed all doctors working for the Nairobi City County government to resume work or face the sack.
“I therefore direct that all doctors working for Nairobi City County Government to resume work in their respective duty stations within 12 hours, failing which disciplinary action will be commenced,” ordered Sakaja.
