Kenyans in select regions should brace themselves for heavy rains for the next seven days starting July 30 to August 5, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department. Kenya Met in its forecast on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, stated that some regions in the country would continue receiving rains both in heavy and moderate amounts.
Among the regions forecasted to receive rains include the Central Highlands, the Rift Valley, Western Kenya, North-Western Kenya, and the Coast.
Counties in the Central Highlands region which also covers Nairobi County include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Counties.
“Rainfall is expected to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central Rift Valley and North-western Kenya.
Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-Eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley,” said Kenya Met in the forecast.
Minimum night-time temperatures on the other hand are set to drop to less than 7°C in parts of the Central Highlands, the Rift Valley, & the South-eastern lowlands.

Cold Nights in Nairobi & Central Region
The Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the South-eastern lowlands, and the Rift Valley are also set to experience intermittent cold and cloudy conditions.
In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley which include Nairobi County and the Central region counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, and Kiambu, residents are set experience minimum temperatures of between 07°C and 10°C.
According to the weatherman, the low temperatures are expected to be accompanied by either showers or partly cloudy conditions during the nights and mornings.
Maximum temperatures of between 26°C and 27°C are expected in these regions which also include Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Counties.
The low temperatures in some places of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to be accompanied by showers and thunderstorms especially in the afternoons over at least daily or showers only during the nights.
These includes the counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot.

Kenya Met forecast in other regions
At the same time the weather department said that the rest of the country will be generally dry.
The South-eastern lowlands which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties are set to experience minimum temperatures of 09°C and 31°C maximum.
According to the Kenya Met, the high temperatures are to be experienced mostly during afternoons which are expected to be covered by sunny intervals while most nights will remain partly cloudy.
Maximum High daytime temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced in parts of the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western Kenya.
