Former Kenya Airways CEO Titus Naikuni has landed a top board position after Cannon Group announced key board leadership appointments across its insurance and asset management subsidiaries.
In a statement on May 27, Cannon Group named Titus Naikuni as Chairman of Cannon General Insurance (K) Limited. David Abwoga, an executive director at NCBA Group Plc, was also appointed the new Chairman of the Board of Cannon Life Assurance (K) Limited.
“Cannon Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Titus Naikuni as Chairman of the Board of Cannon General Insurance (K) Limited and David Abwoga as Chairman of the Board of Cannon Life Assurance (K) Limited,” the company said in a statement.
Former KQ CEO Lands Top Board Role at Cannon Group
Titus Naikuni is a Kenyan corporate leader with over 30 years of experience in executive leadership and board governance across the aviation, infrastructure, manufacturing, and financial services sectors.
He has served in senior positions within the financial services sector, including Housing Finance Company of Kenya, Heritage Insurance, and Prudential Life Assurance Kenya.
Naikuni previously served as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kenya Airways, as well as Managing Director of Magadi Soda Company and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Transport, and Communication.
Currently, he serves as a director and advisor to several regional and international organizations and is involved in conservation and education initiatives.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nairobi and completed executive management training at Harvard Business School.

Additionally, he received an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
“Chairman, Cannon Life Assurance Mr. Abwoga brings over three decades of expertise in finance, audit, governance, risk management, and corporate strategy across the East African financial services sector,” Cannon Group statement read.
Appointment of David Abwoga – Chairman, Cannon Life Assurance
David Abwoga, currently serving as an Executive Director at NCBA Group Plc, will bring his strategic leadership in the finance function and help strengthen corporate governance, risk management frameworks, and organizational oversight.
His career includes senior leadership roles at Citibank, Marshalls East Africa, and Deloitte & Touche, where he held responsibilities in financial management and advisory services.
He also serves on the boards of several educational and charitable institutions, contributing to governance and institutional development.
Abwoga holds a Master of Business Administration in Strategic Management from the University of Nairobi and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Moi University.
He is a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Public Secretary, and Certified Information Systems Auditor.
Additional Board Appointment
In further changes announced by Cannon Group, Judy Kamau has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of Cannon General Insurance (K) Limited and Cannon Asset Managers (K) Limited.
“The Cannon Group is pleased to announce the appointment of Judy Kamau as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of Cannon General Insurance (K) Limited and Cannon Asset Managers (K) Limited,” Cannon Group confirmed.

She has previously served as a Non-Executive Director at Lycée Français Denis Diderot Nairobi and held senior roles in the insurance and finance sector, including Senior Reinsurance Accountant at Renaissance Reinsurance Limited in Bermuda and Singapore.
Her career also includes positions as an Accounts Executive at AON Insurance Managers in Bermuda and as a Senior Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers Kenya.
Kamau holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and an Executive Master’s in Coaching and Consulting for Change from INSEAD.
She is a Certified Executive Coach, Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter, Associate in Risk Management, and Chartered Certified Accountant. She is also a member of the Women on Boards Network.
