The European Union Election Observation Mission to Kenya will deploy 180 monitors across the country
According to the Missions Chief Observer Ivan Štefánek, they will have observers in 39 counties.
In a media briefing on Saturday, the Mission said that the team will include 48 short-term observers.
The short term observes will arrive in the county shortly before the election day on August 9.
“This reflects the EU’s established election observation methodology which is based on long-term approach and focuses on the entire electoral process,” the Chief Observer said.
The EU Observer Mission will include a Technology Analyst who will assess the electoral commission’s technology.
Media monitors will also be part of the mission.
They will examine media coverage on a wide range of platforms including traditional, social and vernacular channels.
Among the team will be a Social Media Analyst who will lead a team assessing social media and digital communication.
The mission says it will issue a preliminary statement shortly after the election day.
“ We will remain in Kenya until the completion of the electoral process,”
In case of a runoff, the mission will extend its stay in the country.
“ The team will remain in the country in case of a second round of presidential elections and any complaints and appeal processes, “he said
