The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed four officials who were found holding a meeting at the home of a former MCA aspirant in Homa Bay County.
The commission says officials committed an offense.
Homa Bay County IEBC returning officer Fredrick Apopa says the officials contravened the law by attending the meeting.
“You cannot be in a meeting with politicians when the law requires you to be neutral,” he said.
The officials were on Sunday busted while meeting an MCA and a parliamentary aspirant from a political party.
Residents of Kanyikela stormed the meeting venue and took the suspects to police.
They accused them of planning on how to manipulate Tuesday’s election.
Police are still investigating the matter and the individuals will be charged should it be found that they committed an electoral offence.
“The outcome of the investigation will determine whether they will be charged. It will be up to police and the office of the Director of Public Protection to take legal action against them,” Apopa said.
The individuals included a presiding officer, two deputy presiding officers and a clerk.
Other officials who were in the meeting managed to escape before the surging crowd arrived at the venue
