Biography
Aden Duale is a veteran Kenyan politician having served as Member of Parliament, Majority leader in National Assembly and Cabinet Secretary.
President William Ruto appointed Duale as CS Defence in Kenya after 2022 general elections.
When Ruto dissolved his Cabinet in 2024 and reconstituted it, he picked Duale as CS Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry.
On March 26, 2025, Ruto reassigned Duale to the powerful ministry of Health.
He has served as a ranking Member for three consecutive terms of Parliament in the National Assembly of Kenya.
Aden Duale Educational Background
Duale began his early education life at Boystown Primary School in 1981 where he attained his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE).
Thereafter, he proceeded to Garissa High School in 1985 where he earned his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
The vocal legislator then proceeded to Moi Forces Academy in 1987 for his Kenya Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education (KACSE).
He later enrolled in Moi University in 1992 where he graduated with a Bachelor of Education Economics.
Aden then joined the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) in 2011 where he attained a master’s in business administration (MBA).
Political Career
Duale began his professional career in the early 90’s as a teacher at Sankuri Secondary School.
However, he quit barely a year into his teaching job and started working as a clerical officer at the Provincial Commissioner’s office in Garissa.
Six months later, he quit the job due to what he termed as poor payment. Thereafter, he joined the family business.
From 1999 to 2003, he worked as a director at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
Later, he joined politics in 2007 and was allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) going to the 2007 General elections.
He vied for the Dujis Constituency parliamentary seat and won under the ODM ticket. In April 2008, he became the Assistant Minister for Livestock.
In 2011, he ended his allegiance to the ODM party and joined William Ruto to form URP (United Republican Party).
URP joined forces with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party The National Alliance (TNA) Party which formed the Jubilee Alliance.
Duale served as the Member of Parliament for Garissa Town after being elected on a Jubilee party ticket and served for four consecutive terms between the period 2013 to 2022.
However, he did not finish his fourth term as he was elected for an executive role by the president.
Duale would later become the first majority leader in 2013 under article 108 of the 2010 constitution and served for a period of eight years.
