Billy Arocho Otunga is a Kenyan security professional, businessman, and political figure best known for his long association with former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
For years, Arocho was a familiar figure at political rallies, campaign events, and public functions, where he played a key role in crowd management and personal security.
His close association with Kenyatta made him one of Kenya’s most recognizable political security aides.
Beyond security, Arocho has served in public leadership, ventured into business and private security consultancy, and later attracted national attention after joining President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in 2023.
Early Life and Family
Billy Arocho Otunga was born in 1976 in Eastleigh, on 11th Street, opposite the former location of the Kenya Bus Service (KBS) stage.
He is the twin brother of the renowned football commentator Fred Arocho and is reported to be the eldest of three siblings.
Although some published profiles describe him as married with three children, Arocho has largely kept his family life private.
Education
Arocho attended Ainsworth Street Primary School before joining Jamhuri High School for his secondary education.
During his educational journey, Billy joined the rugby team and later switched to football, as Jamhuri High School was known as a soccer giant.
However, during the time Billy joined the team, it had been banned from participating in the sport for four years.
The ban was later lifted, and the school played a match against Milimani School, which ended in a war and a two-year ban for Jamhuri High School.
He later enrolled at Kenya Polytechnic, where he studied Business Management, a course that complemented his later work in security management, business and public administration.

Career
Billy Arocho’s rise to public prominence began in 2004 after reportedly meeting Uhuru Kenyatta during a KANU delegates’ conference.
According to Billy, Uhuru took an interest in him after he publicly stated that any funding for the conference was associated with Nicholas Biwott.
The meeting marked the beginning of a professional relationship that led to Arocho becoming one of Kenyatta’s trusted security associates.
As Kenyatta advanced from Cabinet minister to Deputy Prime Minister and eventually President, Arocho became a recognizable member of his security team.
In his political career, Billy Arocho expresses his gratitude to the political figure Simon Mbugua Nganga, who helped him grow politically and bought him his first suit.
“I am grateful to Simon Mbugua Nganga; he took me from the streets and bought me my first suit, taking me to parliament as his personal assistant for one and a half years,” Arocho stated.
Arocho was frequently seen managing crowds and coordinating security at political rallies and major public events attended by thousands of supporters during his reign with Uhuru.
Beyond his security responsibilities, Arocho has been described as a businessman with extensive experience in the private security sector.
Billy has been linked to prominent figures, including the current Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi, who he clarifies is among his closest friends.
He also served as a director at the Athi Water Services Board, broadening his public career beyond security work.
In recent years, he has established himself as a private security consultant, drawing on decades of experience in the industry.

Billy Arocho’s Relationship with President William Ruto
Although widely associated with former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Arocho has maintained that he also enjoyed a long-standing friendship with President William Ruto.
According to Arocho, the relationship dates to the period when Ruto served as Deputy President and deputy party leader of Jubilee.
In July 2023, Arocho officially left Jubilee and joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), a move that sparked public interest due to his close ties to Kenyatta.
Announcing his decision, Bill emphasized that he joined UDA because Ruto was both a close friend and his former deputy party leader.
Despite supporting Raila Odinga during the 2022 General Election, Arocho clarified that he was warmly welcomed into UDA after Ruto’s victory.
