BIOGRAPHY
George Natembeya is a prominent figure in Kenya, known for his bold and extensive career in public service and role in politics, serving as the Governor of Trans-Nzoia County.
Educational Background
He attended the Kenya School of Government before enrolling at the University of Nairobi for a Bachelor of Anthropology, and later pursued a master’s degree in Anthropology.
Career
Natembeya started his career as a Personal Assistant to the late John Michuki, who served as Kenya’s Minister for Security.
After serving for four years alongside Michuki, Natembeya’s career progressed when he was promoted to the role of District Officer.
He was deployed to Murang’a District, to counter gangs, including the dreaded Mungiki sect, which was causing unrest in the area.
Natembeya’s next appointment was as the County Commissioner of Isiolo in 2016.

In his new role, he was assigned to guard the Mau water towers, which was crucial environmental conservation effort.
The position required him to comprehend complex political and social dynamics, as he witnessed the ejection of over 10,000 occupants from Mau to conserve water catchments.
In June 2019, he was designated as the Rift Valley Regional Commissioner.
Throughout his term as Regional Commissioner, he demonstrated dedication to upholding the law and took decisive action.
George Natembeya joins politics
Natembeya made the decision to join politics, which took a drastic change, after he resigned from his role as Regional Commissioner in January 2022 to vie for the gubernatorial seat.

After the 2022 General Election, Natembeya was elected as the Governor of Trans-Nzoia County.
He is behind the Tawe Movement, which seeks to address issues affecting the people from the Western Region.
Natembeya has a frosty relationship with several political kingpins from Western Kenya, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, Speaker Moses Wetangula, and veteran trade unionist Francis Atwoli.
Natembeya, a father of three, is married to Lilian Khaemba.
