Fikirini Jacobs: From Being Expelled from Two Universities to Ruto’s PS Nominee

Fikirini Jacobs was nominated by President William Ruto for the position of Principal Secretary for Youth Affairs.

If approved, Jacobs will be one of Kenya’s young Principal Secretaries.

His name is, however, not new in the political scene as he has been in the spotlight from his days as a student leader at Maasai Mara University and Pwani University.

Early Life

Fikirini Jacobs was born and raised in Bamba, Kilifi County. He is currently 28 years old.

Fikirini Jacobs Educational Background

Fikirini attended Mnagoni Primary School before joining Mwakitawa Secondary School, where he completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2014.

In September 2015, he enrolled at Maasai Mara University to pursue a Bachelor of Arts, Education degree.

He was elected as the Deputy President of the Students Organisation of Maasai Mara University (SOMMU).

However, Fikirini was expelled from the University in 2017 for allegedly leading protests at the University.

After the expulsion, Jacobs joined Pwani University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in philosophy.

However, in 2019 he was expelled from the university after he published an opinion article agitating for the removal of the Pwani University Vice-Chancellor.

His article “Why the VC must go by all means” sparked tension between him and the administration hence he was expelled on the grounds of inciting students to protest.

Fikirini made a comeback to study at Pwani University, where he graduated in 2023 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy.
