Biography
Junet Mohamed is the current the Member of Parliament for Suna East Constituency and currently serving his third consecutive term.
He is also serving as the National Assembly Minority Leader and made history as the first Kenyan Somali to clinch a parliamentary seat in the Nyanza region. He is a member of the ODM political party.
Family
Junet is the second born in his family and has eight siblings. His father, Sheikh Nuh Mohamed originally hailed from Mandera county where most Kenyan Somalis reside.
This was before he moved to Migori in pursuance of a wholesale business in the area.
Junet Mohamed Education
The lawmaker began his studies at Mandera D.E.B. Primary School and later joined Lenana School.
Thereafter, he graduated from the University of Nairobi with Bachelor of Business Administration degree.
Junet holds a Diploma in Business Management from the Woodvale Institute.
Political Career and Key Achievements
Mohamed began his political career in 2005, when he was nominated as a councillor and served as Mayor of Migori County Council.
However, in March 2013, he was elected on an ODM party ticket as a Member of Parliament for Suna East. He was re-elected in 2017 and 2022, respectively.
During his first, second, and third term in Parliament, the Hon. Junet Mohamed served as a member of various Committees.
Throughout his first term, he was a member of the Departmental Committee on Energy, Communication, and Information, as well as the Public Accounts Committee.
Additionally, in his second term in the National Assembly, he served on both the House Business Committee and the Public Accounts Committee.
In his third term, Junet Mohamed is a Member of the House Business Committee, the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee and the Public Debt and Privatization Committee.
Furthermore, in his legislative capacity, Hon. Junet Mohamed is a passionate debater and has made substantial contributions to discussions on various bills, motions, and reports in the House.
