Lukoye Atwoli is a Kenyan professor of Psychiatry and the Dean of the Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa.

 He also practices psychiatry at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

Age and Early Life

Lutoye Atwoli was born in 1976 in Kenya. He is the son of Central Organisation of Trade Unions boss, Francis Atwoli.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in psychiatry from the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 2015.

Additionally, from 2003 to 2006 he graduated with a Master of Medicine degree in Psychiatry from the University of Nairobi.

From 1995 to 2001 he joined Moi University in Eldoret, where he completed his undergraduate degree in Medicine and Surgery,

Lukoye also attended Jamhuri High School in 1990 where he did his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.

He completed his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education in 1989 from Eastleigh Airport Primary School.

Career Background

He is currently a professor of Psychiatry and the Dean of the Aga Khan University Medical College, East Africa since 2020.

Moreover, he practices psychiatry at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

His extensive career experience started in 2014 when he became an associate Professor of Psychiatry in the Mental Health department at Moi University.

Previously, he was Dean after working as Senior lecturer and lecturer from 2012 in the Department of Mental Health at the University of Moi.

From 2007 to 2008 he was a Medical Specialist in Mental Health at the Moi Teaching Referral Hospital.

In 2006, he worked as a Provincial Psychiatrist and Deputy Medical Superintendent at the Provincial General Hospital Garissa.

Family

Lukoye Atwoli is married to Maureen and together they have two children. He met his wife at a wedding ceremony.

Achievements

He is a visiting scientist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and an honorary associate professor at the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cape Town.

Further, he was appointed to serve on the board of Global Health by the US National Academies of Science, engineering, and Medicine.
