Biography

Dr. Patrick Amoth is the Director General for Health in the Ministry of Health (MoH), Kenya. 

Amoth also chairs the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (WHO), representing the African region.

With over twenty-seven years of experience in healthcare, Dr. Amoth has made significant contributions to the field.

Patrick Amoth Education

Dr. Patrick Amoth is a graduate of the University of Nairobi holding a Bachelor’s in Medicine and a Bachelor’s in Surgery Degree. 

He also holds a Masters in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the same university.

At the same time, he holds a Diploma in Health Systems Management from Galilee College in Israel.

Experience

Before his current role, Amoth headed the Directorate of Public Health where he spearheaded strategy development for effective delivery of health services in all the 47 Counties in Kenya.

Additionally, he headed the department of health sector coordination and inter-governmental affairs.

Dr. Amoth has had an expansive experience in civil service having risen from a Medical Officer at Kisumu’s Provincial Hospital.

Thereafter, he became the Medical Superintendent in the former Kiambu District Hospital, now Kiambu County Referral Hospital.

Later, he served as the Director of Medical Services for Kiambu East and Kiambu West Districts, now Kiambu County.

During his tenure in Kiambu, Dr. Amoth demonstrated exceptional managerial skills and excelled in fundraising efforts for the hospital.

Similarly, he initiated various programs and spearheaded significant infrastructural improvements across many hospitals.

He also had a successful stint as the Chief Medical Specialist and Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Nairobi.

Previously Held Positions

According to Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC), Patrick is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist of immense repute.

Amoth previously led the Directorate of Public Health at the Ministry, where he was instrumental in developing strategies for the efficient delivery of health services across all 47 counties in Kenya.

Likewise, he played a key role in the initiation and alignment of Universal Health Coverage for the nation.

In addition, Dr. Amoth formerly headed the Department of Health Sector Coordination and Intergovernmental Affairs.

This role followed his successful tenure as Chief Medical Specialist and Senior Deputy Director of Medical Services at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Nairobi.
