The University of Nairobi (UoN) has warned the public against a misleading Facebook post circulating online about its 75th graduation ceremony held on Friday, September 18.
In a notice on Saturday, September 19, the university said the post makes a misleading claim about the graduands for the ceremony held on Friday, September 18, 2026.
“A post circulating on Facebook makes a misleading claim about the University of Nairobi graduands for the 18 September 2026 graduation. The University’s official 75th Graduation Booklet provides the verified list of graduands for the ceremony held on Friday, 18 September 2026,” stated UON.
The post featured a photograph of a public official and claimed the person was not among those who graduated during the ceremony.

It went further by referring to the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, specifically the Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration programme, and listing six names as part of its claim.
UoN urged graduands, parents, guardians and members of the public to verify graduation information using its official 75th Graduation Booklet instead of relying on the Facebook post.
“Graduands, parents, guardians and the public are advised to confirm names against the official University of Nairobi list,” read part of the statement.
UON 75th Graduation Ceremony
The warning came a day after UoN conferred degrees and awarded diplomas to about 3,000 students during its 75th graduation ceremony at the Chancellor’s Court.
The ceremony brought together the graduating Class of 2026, their families, university staff, alumni and government representatives.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba challenged the graduates to think beyond seeking formal employment and use their skills to address challenges facing society.
“Kenya does not need graduates who are simply looking for jobs. We need graduates who can create opportunities, solve problems, innovate and contribute to the transformation of our economy and society,” Ogamba said.
He also pointed to artificial intelligence, digital technologies, climate change, automation and emerging forms of work as some of the changes shaping the employment landscape.
The ceremony was also the first graduation presided over by UoN Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eng. Ayub N. Gitau since his installation in July 2026.
Gitau presented the Class of 2026 to the Chancellor and outlined the university’s focus on research, innovation, student success, and the application of knowledge to societal challenges.
The graduation was held under the theme “Transforming Society through Excellence, Knowledge and Innovation.”
